The role
You will provide strategic advice to clients in the domains of healthcare, pharmaceuticals and life sciences on EU funding opportunities and engagement strategies.
You will lead complex consulting assignments, manage proposal development, build international consortia and oversee strategic client relationships.
The role requires a strong consulting mindset, including the ability to understand clients’ business and policy priorities, translate complex EU funding frameworks into actionable recommendations and deliver high-quality work across multiple assignments.
Key responsibilities
- Develop funding strategies for clients by identifying relevant EU, national and regional funding opportunities and recommending priorities, application sequences and action plans.
- Advise clients on the funding landscape and the functioning of instruments supporting healthcare, lifescience and pharma sectors.
- Design and deliver capacity-building activities and training.
- Present findings and formulate recommendations for client strategy, investment, innovation and sales teams at different levels of seniority.
- Manage strategic client accounts, maintain trusted advisory relationships and identify follow-on opportunities.
- Lead or support the development of funding applications, including the formulation and refinement of project concepts, consortium structures, work packages, budgets and resource requirements.
- Coordinate cross-country and multidisciplinary teams in delivering consulting assignments.
- Contribute to business development, including opportunity identification, proposal preparation and the development of existing client relationships.
- Manage multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholder expectations in a fast-paced consulting environment.
- Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to internal knowledge sharing and methodological development.
- Represent Schuman Associates at relevant meetings, conferences and industry events.
- Stay informed on funding and policy developments relevant to clients and assignments.
Profile and experience
We are looking for a senior consultant who combines strong knowledge of EU funding with proven consulting / advisory experience. They should be comfortable working directly with senior clients, managing complex assignments and delivering strategic recommendations under demanding timelines.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- A master’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as Life Sciences, Engineering, European Affairs, Political Science, Law, Economics or a related field.
- Excellent spoken and written English; German would be a strong asset; French and/or Dutch are desirable.
- At least five years of experience in EU funding consultancy, management consulting or innovation advisory.
- Demonstrated experience advising organisations in the domains of healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology or life sciences.
- Experience leading or making a substantial contribution to EU healthcare and/or pharmaceutical funding proposals under Horizon Europe health strands, Innovative Health Initiative (IHI), EU4Health, Digital Europe, European Innovation Council (EIC), IPCEI, RescEU, European Structural and Investment Funds, LIFE, and other relevant programmes.
- A track record of managing client relationships and delivering high-quality consulting assignments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure complex information and develop clear recommendations.
- Excellent project-management, stakeholder-management and communication skills.
- A proactive, commercial and solution-oriented approach.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary teams.

The role requires a strong consulting mindset, including the ability to understand clients’ business and policy priorities, translate complex EU funding frameworks into actionable recommendations and deliver high-quality work across multiple assignments.
Key responsibilities
- Develop funding strategies for clients by identifying relevant EU, national and regional funding opportunities and recommending priorities, application sequences and action plans.

Profile and experience
We are looking for a senior consultant who combines strong knowledge of EU funding with proven consulting or advisory experience.
Hands-on experience with industrial investment funding is a requirement.
They should be comfortable working directly with senior clients, managing complex assignments and delivering strategic recommendations under demanding timelines.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- At least five years of experience in EU or public funding consultancy, management consulting or innovation advisory, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience advising organisations in the domains of industry, energy or cleantech, and particularly in the sectors of renewable energy, hydrogen, energy storage, circular economy, carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), smart energy systems, cleantech manufacturing, clean mobility, advanced materials, and nuclear energy.
- Working knowledge of EU State aid rules and experience developing strategies for sequencing and combining funding applications.
- Hands-on experience with funding programmes supporting industrial innovation, energy and cleantech investment, particularly Horizon Europe, Innovation Fund, LIFE, CEF Energy, Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism, European Structural and Investment Funds, Modernisation Fund, IPCEI, national and/or regional programmes for industry, energy or cleantech.
- A good understanding of the relevant policy context, including the Clean Industrial Deal, Net-Zero Industry Act, EU industrial policy and applicable State aid frameworks.
- A sound understanding of sector-specific challenges and commercial business models.
- A track record of managing client relationships and delivering high-quality consulting assignments.
- Experience leading, or making a substantial contribution to, EU or public funding applications.
